Lane changes slated for I-90/Route 47 area

Updated: January 15, 2013 11:24AM

HUNTLEY — The Route 47 roadway will see some changes in its traffic patterns starting Friday.

The changes are being made because of the ongoing major Interstate 90-Route 47 interchange project.

Among the changes will be the permanent closure of Manning Road at Route 47 due to its proximity to the new on ramps that are slated to be constructed. The roadway will remain open at Big Timber Road.

Lane configurations will be changing along Route 47 between Big Timber Road and Jim Dahmer Drive/Freeman Road in both north and south directions. These changes are expected to continue for the next two weeks.

Village officials also are cautioning vehicles to watch for flaggers on the roadway and to expect delays when planning trips through Huntley.

The $69 million interchange project is being built in partnership with the village of Huntley, Kane and McHenry counties, and the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the tollway’s $12 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future. Construction began in June and, the interchange is scheduled to be completed in 2013.

The project will complete the existing partial interchange and includes construction of six new ramps with all-electronic toll plazas and reconstruction of Route 47 over I-90 to provide a full-access interchange.

The project also includes the reconstruction and widening of 1.5 miles of Route 47 from south of Manning Road to north of Jim Dhamer Drive and Freeman Road. In addition, new traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Route 47 with Jim Dhamer Drive and Freeman Road, and at two new signalized intersections at the westbound exit ramp to northbound Route 47 and the eastbound exit ramp to northbound and southbound Route 47.
