Damaged pole’s wires snarl Rt. 31 traffic

Traffic jam on Route 31: Traffic was tied up Wednesday morning on Route 31 (State Street) from Wing Street to Big Timber Road as crews from AT&T cleaned up the site of a damaged telephone pole, police said. According to police Lt. Dan O’Shea, a southbound car struck the utility pole at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday on Route 31 south of Schiller Street, causing the pole to collapse and wires hang low over the street. Repair work was completed before 9 a.m. Wednesday, O’Shea said. The original crash was still under investigation, he added, but drugs or alcohol were not believed involved in the incident.
Cocaine sale charged: Semaj L. Collier, 20, of the 1400 block of Meyer Street, Elgin, was charged with felony counts of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance (cocaine) within 1,000 feet of a church, and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance following a Nov. 14 incident. On Wednesday a judge set his bail at $60,000, and he was given a Dec. 17 court date.
Driving on revoked: Martin S. Porras, 48, of the 600 block of Chester Avenue, Elgin, was charged with driving on a suspended or revoked license with a previous driving-under-the-influence conviction following his arrest Tuesday. On Wednesday, a judge set Porras’ bail at $10,000, and he was given a Dec. 21 court date.
Carpentersville
Pot charges: Miguel A. Tello, 22, of the 800 block of Forest Lane, Elgin, was charged with a Class 4 felony count of manufacture or delivery of cannabis, between 10 and 30 grams, and a misdemeanor count of possession of cannabis following his arrest Tuesday in Carpentersville. On Wednesday, a judge set Tello’s bail at $20,000, and he was assigned a Dec. 21 court date.
