Recount scheduled in disputed Kane County board race

Updated: January 6, 2013 9:52AM

ELGIN — The demonstration recount in the 22nd District race for Kane County Board is set to take place at 9 a.m. Dec. 12.

Kane County chief deputy clerk Stan Bond said Tuesday that the results are official and have no impact on Elgin Republican Douglas Scheflow’s taking the oath of office Monday.

Scheflow beat Democrat Bob Getz of Elgin by just 13 votes, collecting 3,528 votes to Getz’s 3,515 nods.

According to Illinois election law, Getz is only allowed to have two of the 10 precincts recounted and has requested the 7th and 43rd precincts. If the recount turns out to Getz’s advantage, he can ask the courts to make a ruling on the election.
