St. Charles cops set up online crime tip form

ST, CHARLES — Residents can now report suspicious activity to police through the city’s website.
By going to www.stcharlesil.gov, people can click on the Anonymous Drug and Crime Tip Line button to submit a summary of the activity directly to the police department along with images of any illegal activity.
Telephone calls can still be made to the Drug & Crime Tip line at 866-DRUG-COP.
The St. Charles Police Department has maintained the dedicated tip line at 866-378-4267 that allows callers to leave information. The tip line rings directly into a voice mailbox where callers can leave a message. In order to ensure the usefulness of the tip, as much information as possible should be given, according to a release from the department. The information is then reviewed by investigators and shared with the appropriate agency.
Information concerning criminal activity is handled by the St. Charles Police Department or the appropriate agency where the crime occurred.
The new online submission form can be used to submit drug or crime information or evidence of suspicious behavior. Those using the form should give as much information as possible. All information will be kept confidential, police said.
If a photograph of the illegal activity was taken, the images can be uploaded online at the same time.
The new online tip line is voluntary and anonymous. You do not have to provide your name.
Anyone wishing to speak directly with a St. Charles police officer can call 630-377-4435. Callers should still dial “911” to report an emergency.
