Afternoon robbery: A 23-year-old Elgin man told police he was robbed of $400 at about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, police reported this week. The man said he was standing outside Mudd & Eddie’s tavern in the Town & Country Shopping Center at 302 S. McLean Blvd. when a woman walked up to him and asked for $1. The man said he pulled out his wallet to give the dollar to her. The victim said a man then walked up, grabbed the wallet and took out four $100 bills that had been inside. The man and woman then walked away together, the victim told officers. Police said they later took a 49-year-old woman in for questioning and she admitted having asked the man for money but denied that she helped someone rob him.
Original victim arrested: Steven Davis, 29, of Riverdale, was charged with domestic battery on Nov. 5 even though police originally were called on a report that he was being beaten up by several other men and he had to be treated at Provena Saint Joseph Hospital for a broken nose and cuts to the head and face. According to reports released Tuesday, the incident occurred about 10:50 p.m. outside the apartments in Norman Nelson Court. One witness said Davis was being beaten and kicked by the brothers of a woman who had caught Davis cheating on her. Police levied the domestic battery charge after they allegedly saw him strike the woman with his fist and spit on her after they arrived, reported stated. He declined to press charges against the men involved in the original beating, police said.
