An Elgin man has been sent to prison for sexually assaulting a minor girl he knew, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Griffin E. Taylor, 51, of the 2000 block of Muirfield Circle, was sentenced Friday Judge David R. Akemann to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

On Aug. 27, 2012, Taylor pleaded guilty to one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

He was accused of sexually assaulting with force a teen-age girl he knew on Nov. 8, 2008, at a business in the 100 block of East Chicago Street in Elgin. The victim was younger than 18 at the time of the assault, authorities said.

In addition to the sentence, Taylor must register for life in accordance with the Illinois Sex Offender Registration Act.

According to Illinois law, Taylor must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He was given credit for at least 247 days served in the Kane County jail.

The case was investigated by the Elgin Police Department and the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, and prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Debra Bree and David Belshan, the state’s attorney office said.
