Mother charged after toddler found wandering street

Updated: November 17, 2012 6:16AM

An Elgin mother faces a felony charge after her 3-year-old was found wandering in the street, crying and asking for his mother, while she was running an errand. Police said Tanisha Farr, 38, of the 200 block of Michigan Street, was charged with endangering the life and health of a child after neighbors found her son in the street in the area of Raymond Street, Gifford Place and Michigan Street at about 9:20 a.m. Sunday. According to reports, Farr told officers she had left home for 10 minutes to buy some coffee and she had left another adult in the home, but he had been asleep when she left. Police said prosecutors upgraded the charge to a felony because Farr had been convicted of endangering a child in 2009 in McHenry County, and she also had been charged with the same offense in McHenry County in 2000 and in Kane County in 2006. Police said it was unclear whether she had been convicted in the last two incidents. Bail was set at $20,000, and she was given an Oct. 26 court date.
