Stolen vehicle: Joseph Martinez, 22, and David Martinez, 21, of the 13N400 block of High Chaparral Drive, Elgin, were charged with possession of a stolen vehicle after an incident in Elgin Tuesday night. A woman who lives in the 300 block of Seneca Street told police she had been hanging out with three other people, two of whom she did not know very well, on her porch that evening. At about 10:30 p.m., she told officers, she went into the house to change her clothes. While she was doing that, she said, someone came into the house, took her car keys off a counter and drove away in her car. According to reports, a state police officer found the vehicle traveling along I-88 later that night and found the Martinezes inside. Police said the owner’s license plates had been replaced with different plates.
Overturned driver survived: Police said Wednesday that the driver whose minivan turned over in a crash Tuesday afternoon on Larkin Avenue was a 68-year-old Elgin woman and she sustained “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.” According to reports, the crash occurred at 5:10 p.m. The woman’s Nissan minivan was westbound on Larkin when it collided with a Chevrolet car going northbound on Melrose Avenue. The Nissan rolled over, trapping the woman inside until firefighters could cut off part of the van’s roof. Police said the Chevrolet was driven by a 57-year-old Elgin man, who was not injured. He was cited with failure to yield the right of way. Larkin Avenue was closed to traffic at Melrose for about two hours.
