Three backyards burn in Hampshire

HAMPSHIRE — Backyards of three homes were damaged by fire in the 200 block of Johnson Street on Wednesday.

Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Herrmann said units responded at 2 p.m. Several trees were burning, along with bushes and fencing. Two homes sustained heat damage.

The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes.

The cause was a short in an electrical transformer.

Damage was $10,000.

Burlington, Pingree Grove, Huntley, Marengo and Genoa provided mutual aid.
