DUNDEE TWP. — After saying goodbye to Dundee Township Park District Aquatic Director Timothy “Tim” Kopka who died unexpectedly last week, officials are pulling together to try to fill his shoes.
Kopka, 45, had been with the park district for about four years.
His death was caused by an aortic aneurysm, officials said.
“Tim brought a unique set of skills,” said park district deputy director Don Kappel. “He had high energy and was always directed towards a positive light.”
Several park district employees will now assume Kopka’s responsibilities.
“In the interim, there’s going to be a dual-focused situation where our individuals that are currently full-time are going to dedicate more time to the that area,” Kappel said.
Mike Eschenbach, aquatic manager at Dundee Township Park District, will take the helm, with assistance from Larry Moscato, superintendent of facilities, and Ken Saveley, Rakow Center building manager.
A memorial service was held by the park district last Thursday at Randall Oaks Park.
Kopka is survived by his wife of 23 years, Judy, and their son, Josh, as well as his parents, the Rev. Dr. Gustav and Nancy J. Kopka; his siblings, the Rev. Dr. Paul (Pei) Kopka, Stephen (Wendy) Kopka and Ann (Davis) Ryan; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials in honor of Kopka can be made to the Joshua Kopka Educational Fund, P.O. Box 56, West Dundee, IL 60118. Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, is assisting the family. More information is available from 847-426-3436 or www.millerfuneralhomedundee.com.
