Elgin officer James Bailey carries a Special Olympics torch while running with officers representing six local agencies Sunday in Aurora. The Illinois Special Olympics Torch Run is designed to bring awareness to the mission of Special Olympics and features police officers from around the region carrying the “Flame of Hope” torch. The torch will be carried through dozens of Illinois communities via 23 different legs to its final destination — the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games on Friday at Illinois State University in Normal.
