Police officers from Aurora, Elgin and other area communities carried the torch for Special Olympics over the weekend.
The Illinois Special Olympics Torch Run, with the Fox Valley leg setting out from Aurora, is designed to bring awareness to the mission of Special Olympics and features police officers from around the region carrying the “Flame of Hope” torch.
The torch will be carried through dozens of Illinois communities via 23 different legs to its final destination — the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games on Friday at Illinois State University in Normal.
Taking part in the Aurora leg of the run were police department teams from Aurora, North Aurora, Montgomery, Batavia, Geneva, Elgin and West Dundee.
