U46 names new principals, administrators

Several new administrators have been named for next school year by Elgin School District U46.
Barbara Johnson will be assistant superintendent for elementary education.
She has worked as the secondary leadership specialist for the Baltimore city schools since 2009. Her responsibilities include visiting schools to monitor instruction and community-building practices; providing guidance and support to principals; conducting principal planning conferences and evaluations; assisting in developing grant proposals and managing grant programs related to principal accountability and leadership development; and helping the entire school community identify and solve problems. Johnson also is a former school principal and has taught middle school and high school English.
She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree in curriculum instruction and development from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree in administration and supervision from Johns Hopkins University, and a doctorate in education administration and policy studies from George Washington University.
Other new administrators are:
Laura Hill, director of assessments and accountability.
Since 2006, Hill has worked for U46 as a coordinator of assessment. In that role, she provided staff development for administrators and teachers; conducted, supervised and coordinated various research projects; worked with district and school personnel to expand the scope and range of the data warehouse; supported the school accreditation process; and has worked with district and school personnel on benchmark assessments.
Hill is a former district coordinator of testing for Joliet Township high schools and taught in high school and eighth grade.
She bachelor’s degree from Benedictine University in Lisle and a master’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
Leatrice Satterwhite, assistant director for special education.
Satterwhite has been coordinating supervisor of support programs and services for the Prince George County Public Schools in Maryland since 2007. Her responsibilities have included monitoring and implementing local, state and federal guidelines; coordinating support services such as occupational and physical therapy, vision, audiology and dual language assessment; coordinating instructional programs and IEP (individualized education plan) development; coordinating the collaborative efforts of the Special Education Department and Human Resources for recruitment, placement and retention of highly qualified personnel; and has assisted in monitoring, reviewing and implementing grants.
She is a former principal and assistant principal in Chicago Public Schools and a former special education teacher.
Satterwhite received her bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Illinois University, a master’s degree in special education from EIU, and a master’s in educational administration and supervision from Roosevelt University.
Jacquelyn Johnson, coordinator for secondary language arts/K-12 social studies.
Johnson began her teaching career at Abbott Middle School in Elgin in 1997 and currently teaches English and reading there. She also is a team/teacher leader, assists in the development of the master schedule and student schedules, provides professional development for reading and writing across curriculums, analyzes MAP, EXPLORE and ISAT data for instructional purposes, and serves as the school department chair/secretary.
Johnson received her bachelor’s degree from EIU and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from National Lewis University.
Joanna Sharp, principal at Creekside Elementary School in Elgin.
Sharp is the “turn-around” principal at Dolton West No. 148 in Riverdale. She has been responsible for setting performance goals, aligning school resources and prioritizing activities based on vision and goals, recognizing patterns and trends, analyzing information to formulate policies and procedures, and using data to solve problems.
She also is a former director of instructional services and high school assistant principal and teacher.
Sharp received her bachelor’s degree from Kansas Wesleyan University, and a master’s degree in education and curriculum from Rockford College.
Lisa Bergbreiter, principal at Independence Center for Early Learning in Bartlett.
Bergbreiter is a special education supervisor in Belvidere School District 100. Her responsibilities include coordinating all programs for early childhood, autism, emotional disorders, learning disabilities, and outside placements, and she is the LEA (local education agency) representative for all special education IEP meetings. She also is a former LD/BD (learning disability/behavior disorder) resource teacher.
Bergbreiter received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Aurora University.
Jason Franzke, principal at Willard Elementary School in South Elgin.
Franzke is an assistant principal in Chicago and has conducted professional development for school staff focusing on RtI (response to intervention), Common Core State Standards, and differentiated instruction. Franzke also served as director of academic initiatives for Chicago Public Schools and is a former assistant principal and teacher.
Franzke received his bachelor’s degree from Emory University, and master’s degrees in Italian language and literature from Columbia University in New York, education from Queens College in New York, and educational leadership from American College of Education in Chicago.
