Gas leak shuts down St. Charles intersection

ST. CHARLES — A natural gas leak has forced the closure of the intersection of Route 31 and Red Gate Road this afternoon.
Police said that at approximately 1:30 p.m. today, a construction crew struck a gas main at the intersection.
Route. 31 has been closed between Silver Glen and Crane Road to the south. A detour has been established along Silver Glen to Randall Road, to Crane Road.
Police said they have been advised by NICOR that the repair may take in excess of five hours to repair, which would have the detour in effect until at least 7 p.m. There were no reported injuries.
