10-year sentence for shooting in Aurora

A 27-year-old Elgin man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated battery with a firearm in an Aurora shooting.

Fernando Gonzalez had been facing attempted murder charges in the Feb. 24, 2010, shooting of a 23-year-old man in Aurora. The attempted murder charges were dropped this month when Gonzalez pleaded guilty to the gun charge, according to Kane County court records. Gonzalez received credit for 806 days he has served in the Kane County Jail while his case was pending.

Gonzalez was one of three men charged in the shooting. All three were arrested after officers were called to the 700 block of East New York Street and found the 23-year-old man bleeding from a wound to his torso.

An officer stopped the suspects’ vehicle and weapons were found, police said.

The victim was treated for a non-life-threatening wound.

Erik Sanchez, 29, of Elmhurst, and Ishmael Sanchez, 45, of Bellwood, are still facing attempted murder charges. According to court records, Erik Sanchez is scheduled to be in court June 21 and Ishmael Sanchez is scheduled to be in court June 28.
