Child injured when TV falls on her

Updated: March 24, 2012 11:20PM

A 2-year-old girl was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora Sunday afternoon after a 20-inch television fell on her from a cabinet.

“We are happy to find out she will be OK,” Aurora police Sgt. Tim Ciochon said.

Emergency responders were called at around 2:49 p.m. to a home in the 100 block of North Union Street.

Ciochon said it was uncertain how large the television was, but it was big enough to fall over. Ciochon said a CAT scan of the girl revealed no fractures. She was going to be taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago as a precaution, he said.

A press release Monday said the girl was in another room in the house while her uncle, an 18-year-old, was in another room caring for a 17-month-old when he said he heard a loud thumping sound. When he went to see what happened, he found that a 20-inch television had fallen on the child, according to police.

The press release said injuries appear to be accidental and the uncle will not be charged.
