A Crystal Lake man was transported to a hospital and several other people were reported injured after what police described as a melee that broke out shortly after midnight on Sunday at an Elgin nightclub.

According to police, the crowd at La Movida Dance Hall, in the 800 block of North State Street, became violent when the scheduled musical group was replaced by a different group. Witnesses told police that as soon as the replacement group took the stage, patrons became upset and hostile towards the band.

A fight started after someone reportedly threw a bottle on stage, after which patrons rushed up on stage and began attacking band members, throwing objects on and off the stage and at each other.

One man was taken to Sherman Hospital with cuts to his face and head. Several others had minor injuries. No charges were filed.

Battery charge: A 25-year-old homeless man was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. According to police, DeAngelo L. Brown approached a woman as she waited for her fiancé outside of a store in the 0-100 block of Clock Tower Plaza. The woman told police he came up and grabbed her left hip. Her fiancé came out and told DeAngelo to stop or he would call police. DeAngelo then said “someone is going to die today,” before turning to leave, according to witnesses. Police located DeAngelo in the area. They charged him with misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct.

Tires burned: Police were called to a suspicious fire shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday, outside of 200 Corporate Drive. A witness said he saw a man standing near a large, white box truck parked at the rear of the parking lot. The man was observed burning items in the grass, but got into the truck and sped off soon after being noticed by the witness. Police found burned tires and pallets at the scene of the fire.
