Provena and Resurrection select ‘Presence Health’ as new name

Presence Health has been chosen as the name of the new health care system formed by the November 2011 merger of Provena Health and Resurrection Health Care.

A formal rollout of a new logo and related branding will occur over the next several months, according to a press release issued Friday.

The Catholic non-profit health care network has locations in Chicago, East-Central Illinois and the suburbs, including Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and Joliet-based Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.

The release said the name was chosen by the Corporate Member, the organization’s five sponsoring organizations: the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, and the Sisters of the Resurrection.

“The Sisters chose a name that respects the legacies of the founding health systems, while also advancing the new organization in a way that balances innovation with the mission and values of Catholic health care,” said Sandra Bruce, president and CEO of the newly named Presence Health.

“Presence Health embodies the act of being present in every moment we share with those we serve and is the cornerstone of an effective patient, resident and family-centered care environment. It also signifies a spiritual connection, as we believe we are called to serve with a spirit of hope and healing.”

The name “Presence” also has meaning to the communities served by the new health care system. These communities rely on the system’s presence to ensure access to high-quality, compassionate care and to make a difference to the lives of those who live in the communities, the release said.

“We are grateful to the Sisters for offering us the gift of this unique name to signify the future of our new health system,” Bruce said.
