Scrap metal crackdown: As part of a crackdown on sales of scrap metal by burglars, the owners of a DeKalb recycling business were arrested last week, the DeKalb County sheriff’s office announced this week. A sheriff’s detective said Richard L. Zimmerman, 69, of 17855 Route 23, DeKalb, and Richard A. Zimmerman, 46, of 1811 E. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb, each were charged with six counts of violating the Illinois Metal Purchase Registration Act by “obstructing identification.” The law requires that anyone who sells a large amount of scrap metal to a recycler must show who they are and register with the dealer. The alleged violatons took place at R. Zimmerman Inc. Trucking and Recycling, at 301 Industrial Drive, the detective said. He said the arrests followed an investigation by the sheriff’s office assisted by the Kane County sheriff’s office and the DeKalb City Police Department. The Zimmermans were released with a notice to appear in court.

Boestrow was taken to Sherman Hospital, while a passenger in his car was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Trespassing: Police said Reginald D. Williams, 19, of Chicago, was charged with trespassing Monday night after a security guard found him at the Buena Vista Apartments at 1223 Fleetwood Drive. He had previously been banned from the complex, the guard said. Williams was released on $150 bond pending a March 2 hearing.
Shoplifting: Kristine S. Kenner, 46, of Harmony Road in Marengo, was charged with retail theft Monday afternoon at the Meijer store at 815 S. Randall Road in Elgin.
