Batavia may limit left turns off Kirk

BATAVIA — Batavia is considering prohibiting left turns off Kirk Road at the intersections with Giese Road and Chillem Drive.
The City Services Committee Tuesday will discuss banning the left turns because of the high number of traffic crashes at those intersections.
On Monday, Noel Basquin, Batavia city engineer, said Batavia police and the Kane County Department of Transportation have agreed to the elimination of all left turns at the two intersections after a review of traffic data.
From 2009 through mid-December 2011, there were 22 vehicle accidents at Kirk and Giese Road and 17 crashes at Kirk and Chillem Road.
Basquin said left turns from Giese Road and Chillem Drive onto Kirk Road also would be banned.
The City Services Committee will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the City Council chambers.
