Weather helps progress on new Dundee Twp. recreation center

Updated: April 3, 2012 1:57AM

DUNDEE TWP. — The warmer temperatures and few snowfalls this winter season have helped keep the Dundee Township Park District’s Randall Road recreation center project on schedule.

“The construction on the project is moving well,” said Tom Mammoser, executive director of the park district. “With this weather we’ve had, we’ve been able to get quite a bit done.”

Dundee Township Park District Board members were given an update on the Randall Oaks Recreation Center at Wednesday night’s meeting.

The $12.6 million facility, now under construction by Elgin-based Lamp Inc., will offer patrons on the west side of the district a fitness center, two basketball courts, an indoor running/walking track, a double gymnasium and exercise classrooms, as well as 5,000 square feet of space reserved for the Dundee Library’s western branch.

Mammoser said the project is expected to be completed in early August, with a grand opening celebration for the public planned for Aug. 25. The time of the event has not yet been decided.

Park officials plan to begin offering programs for people ranging from early childhood to adult at the Randall Oaks Recreation Center in September.

Currently, most of the interior spaces of the building have been framed out, Mammoser said.

“Now it’s on to finishing some of the areas inside the building as far as drywall and completing the HVAC system,” he said. “I think that we’re slightly ahead of schedule, but there’s still a lot of detail work to be done, and sometimes it’s those types of areas that can set you back. But (Lamp Inc. is) moving ahead very well.”
