Two human skulls have been found in Bull Valley, but local police say there is no present danger to the community.
On Tuesday, Bull Valley police were notified of possible human remains found in the 1500 block of Cherry Valley Road, a release from police said. Bull Valley is in McHenry County near Woodstock.
The McHenry County Coroner’s office and the McHenry County Sheriff’s office were contacted for assistance, and the coroner’s office confirmed the remains are two human skulls.
They don’t have any flesh or hair attached — and apparently were simply dumped in the rural area, McHenry County authorities said.
They were discovered sitting on top of the thin layer of snow covering the ground.
“They’re clean to the point they almost look bleached,” Coroner Marlene Lantz said. “It looked like they had been moved from somewhere else.”
With the assistance of other departments, a further search of the area was conducted for additional evidence, though nothing was found.
Police say there is no danger to the community at this time. At this point in the investigation, police believe the remains found have no relation to any open missing persons investigation.
Also assisting in the investigation are the Lake County Sheriff’s office, Crystal Lake police, Bannockburn police, McHenry police, Illinois and Wisconsin Search and Rescue Dogs, and the McHenry County Emergency Management Agency.
