Mr. and Mrs. Alden P. Kilian of Sugar Grove celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 9, 2010.
Nadine (Betty) E. Baker and Alden P. Kilian were married Sept. 9, 1950, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral in Dubuque, Iowa.
On July 24, 2010, a Mass of Thanksgiving included a renewal of their wedding vows and was concelebrated by Father George Glover, OSB, and Father Charles Reichenbacher, OSB, at Annunciation of BVM Church in Aurora. Following the Mass, a reception and dinner dance honoring them was held at Hampton Inn in Aurora.
The celebration was held this summer so that all of the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren could attend. They traveled from Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Utah, and, of course, Illinois. It was a beautiful celebration, one they surely will remember.
They have been blessed with eight children, Thomas J. (Susan) Kilian Sr. of Lake Mary, Fla.; Catherine L. (Donald) Brummel of Park City, Utah; Theresa J. (John) Bowen of Aurora; Patricia J. (Wesley) Haskell of Lilburn, Ga.; Susan A. (Donald) Damato of Aurora; Clifford C. (Cathy) Kilian Sr. of Mason, Ohio; John P. (Sherri) Kilian of Arvada, Colo.; and Joseph P. Kilian (deceased).
Their further blessings include 25 grandchildren, Donald G. (Sarah) Brummel III, Daniel G. (Tricia) Brummel, Kathleen S. (Phil) Kuhn, Anastacia S. (David) Knapper, David A. (Kate) Damato, Thomas J. (Jennifer) Kilian Jr., Jaime T. (Alex) Spaeth, David G. (Sarah) Brummel, Nicole T. (Charles) Peters, Dawn M. (Samuel) Rutherford, Brian Alden (Megan) Damato, Constance L. (Michael) Colles, Andrew M. Damato, Michael J. Bowen, Jacqueline R. (Rob) Joiner, Clifford C. Kilian, Jr., Paul W. (Sara) Haskell, Joseph P. Kilian, Ashley N. Damato, Derek G. Brummel, Lauren Elizabeth Kilian, Corinne Patton, Jonathon Patton, Marilou Elizabeth Kilian and John P. Kilian Jr., and 18 great-grandchildren.
Alden retired in 1999 after completing 45 years as an executive with Illinois Farm Bureau. Betty retired several years ago from Federal Land Bank Association. They lived in the Aurora area for more than 50 years.
Their children further surprised them with a vacation at their favorite Door County resort in Wisconsin.
