Rasmus Viland will celebrate his 100th birthday on Oct. 13, 2010.
Rasmus was born on Oct. 13, 1910, in Seward Township near Minooka, Ill. He served from 1931-1950 in the Illinois National Guard and the Illinois Reserve Militia.
Rasmus was married to Lucille Wallin on June 17, 1938. They have been married for 72 years and first lived in the Kendall County area. They moved to Hinckley in 1961, where they are still living in their own home.
They have six children, Isabelle (Arlow) Hushagen of Fergus Falls, Minn.; the late Rasmus II (Marlene) Viland of Cortland; Victor (Barbara) Viland of Hinckley; Ruth Kaus of Hinckley; Dorothy (Ricky) Gum of Big Rock; and Vilma (Darrell) Michael of Hinckley. They also have 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Rasmus retired as a farmer in 1966 and retired from NIU as a custodian in 1980. He will celebrate the occasion with an open house party from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Hinckley United Methodist Church, Hinckley.
