Elgin: St. John’s Lutheran hosts pork BBQ
St. John’s Lutheran School will host a Fay’s Pork Chop Bar-B-Que dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday. Choose from pork chops or chicken, or have both. Each meal comes with applesauce, baked beans, coleslaw, roll and butter. You can choose to either dine in or go through the drive-thru. Tickets are $12 in advance or $13 at the door. Elgin: Elgin Experience
to hear about Honor Flight
The Elgin Experience monthly movie meeting will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Marcus Theatre in Elgin The presentation will be Veterans Day with Honor Flight Chicago, with Duane E. Werth, president. The Elgin Experience meeting is for those age 50 and better. Membership is not required to attend, so guests can bring along a friend. The fee is $2 per person, which includes coffee, tea, doughnut, the chance to win one of several door prizes, and the viewing of a first-run movie currently being shown at the theater. Genoa: School presents ‘Vacancy in Paradise’
The Genoa-Kingston High School Drama Department will present its fall production, “Vacancy In Paradise.” The show, written by John Kirkpatrick, can be seen at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the school. Elgin: Temple group offers kosher corned beef sale
The Sisterhood of Congregation Kneseth Israel in Elgin is selling kosher corned beef sandwiches, to be picked up or delivered Nov. 17. “Smoked turkey sandwiches are also available for those who want to participate but who, for whatever reason, don’t like corned beef,” said Adele Stein, coordinator of the sale.
A complete lunch contains the sandwich (on rye bread), chips, a kosher pickle and dessert for $8. In addition, people may purchase additional pickles for $1 each, and one pound of corned beef for $15.
Free delivery is available in the greater Elgin area for any group ordering 10 or more sandwiches, or they may be picked up at CKI between 10 a.m. and noon on Nov. 17. Orders must be paid in advance to the CKI-Sisterhood no later than Monday. Carpentersville: Turkey Party at VFW on Nov. 12
The Carpentersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5915 will host a Turkey Party beginning at 5 p.m. Nov. 12 at the VFW, 301 Lake Marian Road, Carpentersville. It will offer a number of meat, poultry and other items. Turkey sandwiches will be served throughout the evening. Proceeds from the event go to the many veterans programs the VFW supports. Plato Twp.: Ladies Aid group to host bazaar
The Ladies Aid at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church North Plato, 43W301 Plank Road, (one-eighth of a mile east of Route 47) will hold its annual lunch and bazaar on Nov. 12. The lunch is a turkey casserole and will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Times for the bazaar are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bazaar includes a bake sale, farm produce, a silent auction, crafters, vendors and more. Proceeds from this event, with matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, will go to the Hampshire/Burlington Food Pantry and to St. Peter’s Little Saints Preschool. Genoa: Roast beef dinner at Faith Methodist
Faith United Methodist Church will have a roast beef dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 12. There will be roast beef, mashed potatoes, vegetable and rolls as well as a salad and dessert bar. The cost is $10 for adults and for children age 12 and older; $4 for children 6-11; and free for those 5 and younger. Tickets can be purchased that evening. Faith United Methodist Church is at 325 S. Elgin: St. Vincent de Paul fall fundraiser at St. Mary
St. Mary Catholic Church’s St. Vincent de Paul Society will host its annual Feather Party fundraiser on Nov. 12 at the parish’s school gym at Fulton and Gifford streets, Elgin. The event, which starts at 7 p.m., features a light meal for purchase, a cash bar, games and raffles to win turkeys, hams, wine and other prizes throughout the evening. Proceeds fund the SVDP’s mission to help the needy in Elgin. This fundraiser helps with the increased call for help during the holidays. Admittance is free.
