Woman’s Club talk focuses on disaster planning

Elgin: Woman’s Club talks about disaster planning

The next Elgin Woman’s Club luncheon meeting and program will be held on Oct. 1 at Villa Olivia Country Club, Route 20 and Naperville Road, Bartlett. The business meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m., with lunch served at noon.

Hosted by the club’s public issues and community service department, the program will feature a presentation by Sean Madison, deputy director of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management, and will provide information on weather safety from tornadoes to blizzards.

A book sale also will be held the day of the meeting, and all members and guests are asked to bring both hard-cover and paperback books to the meeting for the sale.

Virginia Madison is chairman for the October meeting.

Reservations should be made no later than Friday, Sept. 27, by calling the EWC hotline at 847-622-3614. The luncheon meeting and program costs $20 and may be paid for by check at the door the day of the meeting.

The club meets monthly from September to May at local restaurants for luncheon meetings and programs. Women interested in receiving more information may also call the EWC hotline.

Bartlett: Club program on registered therapy dogs

The monthly Bartlett Woman’s Club meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 1 at the Bartlett Log Cabin, 102 N. Eastern Ave. It will begin at 7 p.m. with a social with refreshments, followed by a program at 7:30, then the general meeting.

The program will feature two registered therapy dogs, Caesar and Kiley, accompanied by their trained handlers, Kathy King and Lee Clarbour. They are part of Animal Assisted Therapy, where dogs have been trained to help bring comfort and serve as a diversion from patients’ illness during their visits to hospitals.

King and Clarbour will explain the Animal-Assisted Therapy program.

Bartlett Woman’s Club membership is for women 18 and older. The club sponsors many social and philanthropic events, including Annual Senior Citizen’s Lunch (Oct. 24), Lunch with the Easter Bunny (April 5), Spring Scholarship Fashion Show (April 27), Supper Club, Breakfast Club, Bunco club, monthly First Tuesday Meetings at the Log Cabin with guest speakers, and more. Huntley: Memories of growing up in town in talk

At the Tuesday, Oct. 1, program of the Huntley Historical Society, Kurt Begalka — director of the McHenry County Historical Society — will briefly speak about upcoming programs. He will be followed by two oral history interviews of one of the founding families of Huntley.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Cosman Center’s Willow Room. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 224-654-2070.
