Learn about frogs at Elgin preserve

One of the most pleasant sounds of spring is the symphony of frogs.

Forest Preserve District of Kane County naturalists will lead the search for amphibians at an upcoming nature program. Everyone will learn to identify frogs by songs and physical characteristics. Be prepared to get a bit muddy and wet. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

“Fabulous Frogs” is from 10 to 11 a.m. May 11 at Burnidge Forest Preserve, 38w235 Big Timber Road, Elgin.

The program is free, but register in advance. Call 847-741-8350 or email programs@kaneforest.com to register.

Help document Illinois’ largest trees

Illinois may be known as ‘The Prairie State,’ but we’ve got some awesome trees, as well!

Help discover and document the giants as part of The Illinois Big Tree Registry. This statewide program encourages citizens to appreciate, record and report the largest native trees.

Learn how to get involved during a workshop led by Jay Hayek, extension specialist forester with the University of Illinois. The workshop is from noon to 4 p.m. March 30 at Creek Bend Nature Center, 37w700 Dean St., St. Charles, within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve.

Registration for this “Learn from the Experts” program is $15 per person and is for adults ages 16 and older. To register, call 847-741-8350 or email programs@kaneforest.com.

Story time at St. Charles Nature Center

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County’s popular “Story Time at the Nature Center” series is back for spring.

During the program, staff from the St. Charles Public Library bring books, finger plays, songs and more for children, infants through age 5 to enjoy, along with their parents or caregivers.

Spring “Story Times” are from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays — April 12 and 19, May 3 and 17. The programs are at Creek Bend Nature Center within LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37w700 Dean St., St. Charles.

Programs are free, but advance registration is required. Call 847-741-8350 or email programs@kaneforest.com to register.
