Elgin: ESO to hold kid friendly concert, events
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra will bring another family concert to the Hemmens Cultural Center on Sunday. Free, pre-concert activities include arts and crafts, an instrument petting zoo, and hands-on musical activities, all sponsored by Elgin School District U46.
During the kid-friendly concert, the ESO Woodwind Quintet will perform the classic fairy tale of “The Frog Prince” set to music — with narration originally created by Bob McGrath of Sesame Street fame. The award-winning Lux Saxophone Quartet also will perform.
The concert takes place at 3:30 p.m. at the Hemmens, 45 Symphony Way. Activities for children start at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16 for adults and $8 for children and can be ordered on line at www.elginsymphony.org or by calling the ESO Box Office at 847-888-4000.
Bartlett: Singles dances move to Villa Olivia
Dances for singles age 40 and older are moving from St. Charles to Villa Olivia, 1401 Lake St., starting Monday, Feb. 25. Sponsored by the non-profit St. Charles Singles Club, which is celebrating its 36th year, the dances will be held every second and fourth Monday. Professionally instructed dance lessons take place from 6:30 to 7 p.m. for beginners and from 7 to 7:30 p.m. for intermediates. Cost for lessons is $3 plus $10 admission to the dance. Music is provided by DJ Fast Freddie from 7:30 to 11:00 p.m. Admission to dance only is $10 or $6 for club members.).

Elgin: Anti-drone group members to speak
Joy First and Bonnie Block of the Wisconsin Coalition to Ground the Drones and End the Wars will speak from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the Heritage Room of Building B at Elgin Community College. They also are part of the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance.
These programs are sponsored by Elgin Community College Peace & Justice Committee and by Fox Valley Citizens for Peace & Justice.
Elgin: American Legion burger, steak dinners
