EAST DUNDEE — The Friends of the Fox River Valley Public Library District invite all to take a moment to look back and their family history, as well as the community’s, with two special programs at the Dundee Library this weekend.

Learn the basics of family history research at 2 p.m. Saturday. “Beginning Your Family History” will outline the five steps of genealogy research, look at accepted record-keeping formats, and review some of the more popular websites. All genealogy researchers, from beginner to experienced, will benefit from this program.

At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, join local author and historian Phil Aleo as he brings his most recent publication, “Historic Downtown Carpentersville,” to life. Learn how Julius Angelo Carpenter developed the business district during the 1800s and see how it stands today.

These programs are free, and registration is recommended. To register, visit the library’s “Events & Registration” page at www.frvpld.info, stop by the information services desk, or call 847-428-3661, ext. 5876.

Honor MLK Day

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., most students have the day off from school on Monday. Head over to the cozy Dundee Library for an afternoon of fun and education. Browse the collection for a history lesson on the man for whom this day was named.

The Dundee Library is at 555 Barrington Ave. (Route 68), East Dundee.

Also on Monday, all students are invited to a special magic show presented by the “Master of Humor Magic” Don Bothwell. The show will start at 2 p.m. No registration is required.

Students in grades six through 12 can get creative in our craft room where they can work on fun projects reusing everyday objects. The program will begin at 2 p.m. Registration is recommended. To register, visit the “Events & Registration” page at www.frvpld.info, stop by the information services desk, or call 847-428-3661, ext. 5876. Both programs are free.

The Fox River Valley Public Library District/Dundee Library is located at 555 Barrington Ave. (Route 68) in East Dundee.
