Holiday food train to make stop in Pingree Grove

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled into Pingree Grove in a previous season bringing holiday cheer on a cold morning. The train hopes to raise awareness, food and monetary donations to local communities in need. The Village of Pingree Grove is included as a stop on the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Tour. This rolling fundraiser has been visiting communities across Canada and the United States in November and December for the past 13 years collecting donations to local food banks along the way.
The train is scheduled to arrive at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Pingree Grove. People are encouraged to arrive by 9:45 a.m. The train stage will be open on the south side (Village Hall side). The Reinking Road crossing will be closed from 9:45 a.m. until the train leave approximately at 10:45 a.m.
Each Holiday Train is about 1,000 feet in length with 14 brightly decorated rail cars, including a modified box car that has been turned into a traveling stage for performers. This year the concert will feature The Claytones and Tracey Brown. The only cost to the audience is a non-perishable food donation. The Northern Illinois Food Bank will benefit from all donations collected in Pingree Grove.
Two years ago at the second Holiday Train, Pingree Grove collected over 13,200 pounds of non perishables from local residents and had corporate check presentations for $145,000. Given the greater number of people in need of the Food Bank services this year, the food bank hopes to meet or exceed the previous target.
