Hampshire: Township sets open house at new facility
Hampshire Township will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the new township building, 170 Mill St., Hampshire. The building houses the office of the supervisor and assessor, and includes a conference room for meetings and gatherings. The public is invited.
St. Charles: Kane County Recycling extravaganza
Kane County will host a free residential recycling and document shredding event from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in celebration of America Recycles Day, at 540 S. Randall Road in St. Charles. Plato Township: Church bazaar at St. Peter’s
The Ladies Aid of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at North Plato will hold a bazaar featuring a gift basket sale, a bake sale, farm produce, handmade gifts, and many more items from crafters and vendors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, 43W301 Plank Road (eighth-mile east of Route 47 on Plank Road). Admission to the bazaar is free. The lunch consists of Jello salad, turkey casserole and gravy, corn, dessert and beverage; cost is $8 for adults and $3 for children under 10. Elgin: Feather Party at St. Vincent de Paul, St. Mary
St. Vincent de Paul at St. Mary Church in Elgin is holding its eighth-annual “Feather Party” at 7 p.m. Saturday in the school gymnasium, at Fulton and Gifford. Raffles for turkeys and other prizes will be held throughout the evening. Food and beverages are available for purchase. There is no entrance fee. The funds raised at this event will help support the Vincentian mission of helping neighbors in need. Adults only.
Elgin: Choral Union opens with ‘Sacred Connections’
The Elgin Choral Union (ECU) will perform a concert of “Sacred Connections,” part of Fiesta Musical, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Elgin Community College’s Blizzard Theatre.
Crossover soprano Catalina Cuervo and composer Elbio Barilari, both of Chicago, will be featured. Through sound, structure and inspiration, ECU’s “Sacred Connections” explores connections and contrasts from different cultures and times.
The program features Manuel de Sumaya’s Baroque sacred works together with Handel’s “Coronation Anthems.”
The choir will also sing Elbio Barilari’s “Los Cantos” (“The Chants”) alongside Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem” (“Mass for the Dead”).

St. Charles: Antiques Show set for Pheasant Run
The Chicagoland Antique Advertising Slot-Machine & Jukebox Show is the largest show of its type in the world. The show is popular with dealers and collectors from across the country and around the world for its wide range of high-quality antique collectibles. The dealers generally don’t bring furniture, glassware, dishes or other similar types of antiques to the show. The event will be at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles and runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission for all three days is $5 admission; admission Saturday and Sunday is $7 per person.
Pingree Grove: Veterans Day Celebration Nov. 12
Cambridge Lakes Charter School invites the community to a celebration of our veterans. Starting at 7 p.m. Monday, the Red School Chorales (students in grades one and two) will sing the official songs from each branch of the military and other patriotic songs.
To attend the concert, enter at the Red School entrance of the Cambridge Lakes Learning Center, 900 Wester Blvd. Pingree Grove. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in other activities including writing letters to active-duty members of the military, and a station to make ribbons to wear in support of the troops. Veterans in the community may contact Bill Shuman, Red School principal, prior to the event. Veterans will be recognized for their service during the concert.
