ROUND LAKE BEACH — Arielle Christopher, 13, of Streamwood was appointed Northern Illinois Scholarship Program Community Ambassador at the Northern Illinois Scholarship Program Fall 2012 Pageant held Sunday at The Village of Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center.
Arielle received a crown, sash, bouquet of roses, and the yearlong privilege to represent the Northern Illinois Scholarship Program (NISP) in her community.
The Northern Illinois Scholarship Program calls itself a “Program with a Purpose.” NISP officials say it is one of the most rewarding programs for young ladies and women based in Northern Illinois. NISP is a program with a pageant in Illinois that embraces the importance of community service.
One example of NISP’s dedication is the REACH program — which stands for Responsibility Educating our youth, Achieving goals, Commitment, and Helping others — which was designed to teach the importance of community service.
“The whole experience made me feel like I was gaining a new family today,” Arielle said. “I believe this will help me to be an even better volunteer.”
NISP officials say the yearly event is not a beauty pageant but instead a way to take pride in youth and their goals and achievements. They seek genuine, sincere, congenial citizens who want to “Make a Difference” by giving to and sharing with others.
Arielle has been active in her community by volunteering at local charities. In 2008, Arielle was awarded Illinois House Resolution No. 1507; in 2009, the President’s Volunteer Service Award; and she was awarded an Illinois Senate Certificate of Recognition in 2012.
The Northern Illinois Scholarship Program is based in Wauconda. For more information, contact Diane Calabrese, NISP director, at 847-778-9961 or visit www.nisprograms.com.
