The Elgin Woman’s Club will open their 2012-13 season with its first meeting and program of the year at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Holiday Inn, 495 Airport Road, Elgin. Chairman for the luncheon is Linda Fagan, EWC president.
The program will be presented by Kim Schelling-Rog and Ruth Peterson, educators for the Community Crisis Center of Elgin, and will feature a presentation entitled, “The Face of Homelessness In Our Community.”
The cost for the September luncheon is $20, payable by check at the door the day of the meeting. Members are asked to make reservations no later than Friday, Sept. 7, by calling the EWC hotline at 847-622-3614. Everyone attending the meeting is asked to bring personal toiletries, which will be donated to the Community Crisis Center.
The club meets monthly from September to May at area restaurants and other locations for luncheon meetings and programs. Women interested in receiving more information about the Elgin Woman’s Club may also call the EWC hotline.
This year, the Elgin Woman’s Club celebrated its 125th anniversary, having been founded in 1887; and one year later it opened Sherman Hospital, which it continues to support. Since the club was organized, members have also supported hundreds of local projects including yearly scholarships to students from area high schools.
