ELGIN — Seeds to Succeed is a back-to-school day of community service on Saturday, Aug. 11 in Elgin, Chicago, Aurora, Rockford and many other areas to help kick off a positive, successful school year for children in our communities. The event is sponsored by the United Methodist Churches of Northern Illinois.
Volunteers will be painting the lunchroom and gardening at Willard Elementary School in South Elgin to spruce up the building for opening day. Volunteers will gather at 9 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church at 400 W. Spring St., Elgin.
Several backpack and school supply donation drives are being held across the community for Project Backpack at Elgin Community College (ECC) on Aug. 11.
Supplies can be brought to the First United Methodist Church at 216 E. Highland Ave., Elgin. Volunteers are also needed to pass out water to families waiting in line to pick up their supplies at ECC. Volunteers from United Voices for Children will have a table set up at ECC’s Project Backpack to hand out anti-bullying resources and information.
