Elgin: Saturday 5K run for research

Bob Geier was 52 years old when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer in January 2011. Having no prior symptoms, Bob passed away four months later on May 28. Bob’s daughter, Kayla, wanted to find a way to honor her father and raise awareness of this disease. Since Kayla is a runner and Bob had a perpetual smile on his face, the Smiles 4 Bob 5K run was born. Along with her mom, siblings and many family and friends, Kayla hopes to raise money to support the American Cancer Society. The event will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 195 Nesler Road, Elgin. Registration will be available on race day from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. for $30.
