Disney play takes stage at Jacobs High School

Algonquin: ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at Jacobs High
Jacobs High School presents “Beauty and the Beast” in three weekend shows. With more than 100 students as cast, crew and orchestra, this play has something for everyone. Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” tells the story of a strong-willed woman named Belle (played by senior Anna Taylor) and a prince-turned-beast (played by sophomore Colin Bokowy) as her captor. General seating is $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. There will be three performances: 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Elgin: AID sets Bean Bag Tournament on Saturday
People who are longing for the feeling of a summer day need look no further than the Association for Individual Development (AID) Bean Bag Tournament to cure their winter blues. Join AID at their Elgin facility, located at 1135 Bowes Road, for an indoor charity bean bags tournament from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Participants who enter the tournament will compete for a grand prize of $200. Prizes will also be awarded to the second- and third-place teams as well. The $40 team entry fee will help benefit programs and services for more than 5,100 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and special needs who receive services through AID. Preregister for the AID Bean Bag Tournament by downloading a registration form from the AID website at www.the-association.org.
Bartlett: Lenten series at Immanuel Church of Christ
Immanuel United Church of Christ in Bartlett will begin its Lenten Speaker Series with Gretchen Vapnar, executive director of the Community Crisis Center in Elgin, speaking about her faith and work based on Isaiah 58: 4-7, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the church’s Education Building, located west of the church building on North and Western avenues in Bartlett. St. Charles: Spaghetti meal at Episcopal church
From 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Two Guys and Free Spaghetti will provide a homemade spaghetti and meatballs dinner with beverage, salad, garlic bread and homemade dessert to anyone who attends the monthly event held at St. Charles Episcopal Church, 994 N. 5th Ave. (Route 25) in St. Charles. Elgin: Salvation Army garage sale Saturday
The Salvation Army is having an indoor garage sale in the Community Center Gymnasium to support the Women’s Ministry. First Congregational Church of Dundee is hosting an open house for parents seeking information and details about Littlest Disciples Preschool. The open house will be held at the church from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the lower-level common area. West Dundee: New series at St. James Episcopal
A Lenten study and simple supper series on “Prayer: Does it Make Any Difference?” will be held on Wednesdays, Feb. 29 through April 4, at St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington St., West Dundee. Prayer and Eucharist will begin at 5:45 p.m.. and supper will be from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The book study will begin at 7 p.m. The study will be on a book by Philip Yancey. Elgin: Appraisal fair at Gail Borden Library
Author and antiques expert Mark F. Moran of Iola, Wis., will be at Gail Borden Public Library in conjunction with the Elgin Area Historical Society, starting at 2 p.m. Sunday. Moran has specialized for more than 30 years in vintage folk art, Americana, and fine art. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 books.
West Dundee: Member orientation set Saturday
First Congregational Church of Dundee will hold a new-member orientation from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Sanctuary. The class is an opportunity to explore what it means to be a member of First Congregational Church of Dundee. Attending does not require joining — all are welcome. Nursery care will be provided.
