Soccer registration deadline this week

Elgin: Spring Soccer signup ends Feb. 28

Registration is under way and continues through Feb. 28 for Spring Soccer for children and youth ages 4 to 17. Children will learn basic soccer skills, sportsmanship and teamwork during team practices, which are held once during the week. Games are played on Saturdays. Fees vary per league: Preschool — $40 for residents, $47 nonresidents: U6, U7, U8, U10 — $36 resident, $42 nonresident: U12, U14 and U18 — $40 resident, $48 nonresident. The season begins in April, and fees are based on eight games, which are played at the Elgin Sports Complex. Head coaches are needed; anyone who is interested should email or call Delaney Lehman for more information about being a head coach. Elgin: ER status renewed for Provena Saint Joseph

Provena Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin has received renewal of its Emergency Department designation status as a Level II Trauma Center for Emergency Medical Systems Region 9 in the state of Illinois by Illinois Department of Public Health. This designation confirms that Provena Saint Joseph Hospital’s emergency trained clinical teams have the resources and capabilities to provide emergency care. The Illinois Department of Public Health recognized the contributions to the Illinois Trauma System over the last several years. This status will be effective through 2013.

Passages Hospice seeks patient care volunteers

Passages Hospice offers volunteer opportunities to fit any schedule. Hospice volunteers enhance the quality of life for patients at the end of life through compassionate service. Patient care volunteers provide much-needed companionship and assistance to hospice patients and their families. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and pass a tuberculosis screening and a criminal background check. Training is conducted on a rolling basis. Geneva: Fox Valley Hospice seeks volunteers

Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, a community-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving those with life-threatening illnesses and the bereaved, is in need of volunteers to serve clients in the Fox Valley area. Spanish-speaking volunteers are especially needed. Interested parties must contact FVVH by Feb. 27 to participate in the spring training program. Patient care volunteers work with hospice patients and their families to help ease the burden, providing companionship and emotional, social and spiritual support. Patient care volunteers are part of a team that includes nurses, social workers, chaplains and bereavement counselors.
