The work of award-winning artist and Wheaton resident Anne Hanley will be among the pieces on display this weekend during the Naperville Woman’s Club’s 53rd Annual Fine Art Fair.
Hanley, who specializes in batik and watercolors, was recently named a 2012 NICHE Award winner in mixed media. Started by NICHE magazine in 1989, the award celebrates “excellence and innovation in American and Canadian art.”
“It’s a pretty prestigious award, and we’re really excited to have her,” said Roxanne Lang, art show director for the Naperville Woman’s Club.
A sample of Hanley’s work is featured on the poster for the juried art fair, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 14 and 15 at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville. Admission is free.
More than 100 artists from the local area and across the country are taking part in the annual art fair. Original works on display and for sale includes clay, fiber, glass, jewelry, mixed media, metal, painting, photography, sculpture and wood.
Now in its 53rd year, the event is the longest running art fair in Illinois.
“It’s also the Naperville Woman’s Club biggest fundraiser of the year, besides their fashion show,” Lang said.
A silent auction for a variety of art pieces will be held in the Settlement’s air-conditioned Meeting House.
“All of the items there are donated by artists at the event,” Lang said.
Bidders do not need to be present to win.
All of the proceeds from the fair are donated back to the community through local charities, and also fund an art scholarship at North Central College, she said.
Entertainment will be offered throughout both days as well, including art demonstrations, children’s activities in the “Petite Picasso” area and musical performances.
“We’re really, really excited to have the ensemble from the Chicago Sinfonietta,” Lang said.
For the first time the art fair will host the Sinfonietta’s Project Inclusion ensemble, which will perform July 15. Running Fox Bluegrass and Naperville Chorus will perform July 14.
“There’s something for everyone at the art fair,” Lang said.
