ELGIN — A child sex offender charged with burglarizing an Elgin home with a young girl inside apparently has fled after Cook County authorities refused to honor an immigration hold request on him and allowed him to bond out of jail, according to Elgin police.
Police are seeking the public’s help in finding Salvador Sarabia, who is wanted in connection with the June 27 burglary.
The break-in took place in the 100 block of Neutrenton Avenue on the far east side, where a 13-year-old girl hiding in the basement called 911.
Sarabia, 28, of the 800 block of Ford Avenue, and an accomplice, Fidel Romero, 27, of Rockford, were captured shortly after the girl made the call that morning, police said.
Sarabia posted $10,000 bond on the burglary charge and was released from the Cook County Jail.
While Sarabia had an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold request on him, Cook County Jail policy does not honor such requests, police said.
A warrant was issued for his arrest after he missed a court date on Nov. 21.
Sarabia is a child sex offender who has been deported to Mexico twice in the past, according to police.
