South Elgin Fire District announces promotions

SOUTH ELGIN — With the pending retirement of Chief Joe Cluchey on Feb. 28, the of South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District Board of Trustees have announced several promotions in rank and the new fire chief.
Assistant Chief William B. Sohn will be promoted to fire chief effective March 1. Sohn started his career at the South Elgin district as a paid-on-call firefighter in 1976 and was hired full-time in 1979. Sohn achieved the rank of captain in 1981 and became an assistant chief on Sept. 1, 2002.
Sohn will be sworn in at 1 p.m. Saturday at South Elgin Station No. 22, 2055 McDonald Road.
Lt. Todd Erickson will be promoted to the rank of assistant chief effective March 10. Erickson started at the SEFPD in February 1991 and was hired full-time in July 1996. He was promoted to lieutenant in March 2002. He will be sworn in at the board of trustees meeting on March 10 at Station No. 22.
Firefighter-paramedic Justin Cox was promoted lieutenant effective Feb. 10. Cox started at the SEFPD in August 1997 and was hired full-time in January 2002.
Cox was sworn in at the Feb. 10 board meeting.
Firefighter-Paramedic Michael Rothecker will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant on March 10. He started as a paid-on-call employee in May 1997 and was hired full-time in July 2002. He also will be sworn in at the March 10 trustee meeting.
