An Elgin man has been sent to prison for engaging in sex acts with a minor he knew, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Erick Lopez, 25 of the 600 block of Watch Street, was sentenced Friday by Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Lopez pleaded guilty Dec. 6 to one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
In July and August 2012, Lopez engaged in sexual acts with the victim, who was younger than 18. Lopez knew the victim, authorities said.
According to Illinois law, Lopez is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He was given credit for at least 462 days served in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $100,000 bail.
In addition, Lopez must register for life as a sex offender in accordance with the Sex Offender Registration Act.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Schmidt, who is assigned to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
