Carpentersville gun maker to hold firearm training classes

CARPENTERSVILLE — Illinois’ new concealed carry law has prompted a local gun manufacturer to propose opening a firearms training school at his 855 Commerce Parkway location.

Roger Krahl of R-Guns has been given the OK by the Carpentersville Village Board to add the training classrooms in a portion of the industrial condominium building.

“Right now, R-Guns really just does assembly, and they were looking for a little more room to support the new concealed carry law and do some firearms training,” said Marc Huber, community development director for Carpentersville.

For now, the training will be limited to classroom concealed carry instruction. In the future, Krahl has proposed adding a 10-lane, 40-yard firing range.

“If they get enough interest, they might expand to construct the range,” Huber said. “But right now, they’re just expanding the business from assembly to allow for training there, which was previously not permitted.”

If the range is built, Krahl will have to comply with noise regulations.

The facility also has to comply with all local building codes, as well as Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms requirements, officials said.
