ELGIN — Residential trash collection was scheduled to resume Wednesday after the extreme cold forced the city’s waste collection contractor, Waste Management of Illinois, to suspend its operations on Monday and Tuesday.
Trash collection will operate on a holiday schedule through Saturday. The holiday schedule means that crews will try to collect both Monday and Tuesday routes on Wednesday, Wednesday routes on Thursday, Thursday routes on Friday, and Friday routes on Saturday.
In the event trash and recycling containers are not emptied on the holiday schedule date, Waste Management will attempt to collect materials as soon as conditions improve. Residents are asked to leave their trash and recycle containers at curbside for collection until the end of day on Saturday.
If Waste Management crews are prevented from collecting a resident’s trash and recycling materials this week, service will resume next week on your regular service day.
“We are working to get your pick up service back on schedule as soon as possible, and we apologize for the inconvenience,” said Lisa Disbrow, spokesperson for Waste Management of Illinois.
