Route 47 was closed south of Huntley between Interstate 90 and Big Timber Road from after 6 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday following a crash and diesel spill, officials said Saturday night.
Deputies from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Route 47 south of Interstate 90 for a report of a three-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck at about 6 p.m., said Lt. Pat Gengler, department spokesman.
According to reports, two cars and the semi were all southbound on Route 47 when one of the cars made a U-turn in the road, causing the semi driver to swerve to avoid striking the car. The semi went into the east-side ditch on Route 47, came back onto the road and came to a rest on the west shoulder. A gas tank on the semi ruptured, causing abut 100 gallons of diesel fuel to leak onto the road and into the ditch.
No one was injured in the crash, Gengler said. Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by members of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management at the scene.
Gengler released a notice shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday that the portion of the road in question had been reopened.
Further information on the drivers and any charges were expected later, he said.
