ELGIN — A shooting incident on Elgin’s northwest side has led to the arrest of an apparently jealous husband on Class X felony charges, police announced.
An Elgin man told police that when he drove into the parking lot of an apartment building in the 1400 block of Todd Farm Drive at about 9 p.m. Thursday, the estranged husband of a female co-worker was waiting there in a parked car. He said that the husband, IV Oneal Preston II, 33, of Elgin, got out of the car carrying a handgun and fired about three shots toward his car. The shots missed the man seated in his vehicle and no one else was injured either, police said.
According to police, a man ran away on foot when a police officer drove up, leaving Preston’s car parked nearby.
Witnesses told police the shooter dropped something on the ground while running away, and officers were able to recover a .40-caliber handgun in the area.
Following an investigation, police reported, Preston was arrested later without incident at his place of employment.
He was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon/possession of a firearm by a felon.
His bail amount was not immediately available. Preston’s next court appearance is set for Oct. 25.
