CARPENTERSVILLE — Hundreds of bicyclists will descend on Carpenter Park later this month during the village’s sixth annual Oktoberfest and Cyclocross Race event.
Assistant Village Manager Joe Wade anticipates there will be about 600 cyclists entering the races. And while most of those cyclists will come from the Chicago area, “many entrants also come from other Great Lakes states,” Wade said.
The Oktoberfest celebration, set for Sunday, Oct. 20, will consist of a series of championship cyclocross bicycle races throughout the day, as well as vendor booths, area civic organizations, a food court, beer garden, children’s inflatable amusements, and live music.
“I think the biggest hit last year — which will be repeated — is the petting zoo, which included the friendliest llamas, goats, sheep and rabbits as well as opinionated ducks and chickens,” Wade said.
This fall celebration is sponsored by the village of Carpentersville, Main Street Bicycles and the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce.
Carpenter Park is located at Maple Avenue and Carpenter Boulevard.
While bicycle races may start earlier, festival hours for vendors, food court, beer garden, music and children’s activities will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
