ELGIN — Even as some summer street projects are nearly reaching their conclusion, yet two more road construction projects will snarl Elgin traffic starting this week, city officials have announced.
North McLean Boulevard/Sleepy Hollow Road will be closed at Interstate 90 for four weeks of construction beginning Wednesday, Sept. 25. Work is expected to conclude on Oct. 25, weather permitting. Drivers heading that way — which takes commuters between Elgin and Sleepy Hollow — are being urged to plan an alternate route.
As I-90 is widened, the bridges carrying it over or under cross roads also are being widened a few at a time.
In another project, beam straightening and structural steel repairs to the Randall Road bridge over Route 20 will begin on Monday, Sept. 23, and are anticipated to be completed by Friday, Sept. .27, weather permitting.
City officials said traffic will at times be reduced to one lane for southbound Randall Road over Route 20 and eastbound along Route 20 beneath the Randall Road bridge from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day.
In addition, the eastbound Route 20 ramp at Randall Road will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
