ELGIN — The Gifford Park Association’s 32nd annual Historic House Tour is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Elgin’s Near West neighborhood.
Registration for the walk runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Church of the Brethren, 783 W. Highland Ave. Tickets are $20 the day of the tour and may be purchased at the Church of the Brethren.
The tour spans a swath of Elgin’s west side featuring more than 160 years of architecture and history. At one end of the tour area is the city’s oldest neighborhood west of the Fox River. It began before the Civil War and was clustered around the Chicago Street Bridge. It is now home base for the Near West Neighbors Association (NWNA).
While seemingly far removed from the tour area, Judson University has an interesting past and beautiful campus, both worth exploring, according to tour sponsors. This marks the university’s 50th year in Elgin. The tour site is open after 1 p.m.
