ELGIN — A woman was hit by a Metra train Tuesday morning near Elgin’s downtown. She was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, officials said.
The woman was struck just west of the National Street crossing by a Milwaukee West Line train that had left the Chicago Street station at 7:48 a.m., officials from Metra said.
The train was moving at a relatively slow speed, and the engineer was able to stop the train, said an Elgin Fire Department spokesman. The woman was conscious and able to talk to paramedics, officials said.
Authorities did not release the woman’s identity.
Milwaukee West Metra trains were delayed about a half-hour this morning following the incident.
