Minor League Baseball: Powell leads West All-Stars to victory

Midwest League All-Star Game

West All-Stars 7, East All-Stars 0

Recap: Beloit centerfielder Herschel Mack Powell IV, whose nickname is Boog but who is no relation to the former Orioles star, sparked the West by going 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. His two-run double in the sixth keyed a four-run inning that helped break the game open. He also stole a pair of bases, including home as part of a double steal in the first. He was named the MVP in the game played at Comstock Park, Mich.

Up next: Wednesday is a league day off. For the Cougars, play resumes Thursday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva with a 6:30 p.m. game against Cedar Rapids. Starting pitchers yet to be named.
